TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14
KOWLOON, ALL THE APPARATUS, STEPKID —9pm,

About All the Apparatus In June '08, James Warren and AL Rosales had a plan to play something truly surreal for a musical performance that a friend of theirs had invited them to play. The duo had typically favored music of the Metal genre but they felt compelled to break free from their comfort zones and try something that would be influenced by bands like Arcade Fire and Tom Waits. Shortly after the idea had been established, James tragically passed away before the performance. Still very much in mourning, some of James friends joined AL to play a dedicatory set in James' memory. As time continued to pass, Haberdashery grew in numbers and added a variety of exotic instruments (anywhere from Cello, to Accordion, and even the rare Omnichord). The music follows story lines and lives within its lyrical content, while offering a "throw back" instrumental flavor to the palette as well. We remind people of what it was to be five years old, and we discuss the shady intentions of homicidal magicians from the 1920's. It is safe to say that one can expect a spectacle when seeing us perform live.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17
DANAVA - FREE SHOW!, GET HUSTLE, RABBITS —9pm, FREE!

Photobucket

Portland based heavy classic rock group Danava is returning to the stage after a year hiatus. The group has acquired two new members, Matt Oliver on drums and Andrew Forgash of Ancient Age on second guitar. The group has shared the stage on tour with The Melvins, Down, Voivod, Acid Mothers Temple and Witchcraft and released two records on new york label Kemado. This free event will be a pleasant welcome back party for our boys and the support ain't no joke either. Get Hustle playing in portland for even longer with their trance inducing keyboard and drum rave ups with almost Jim Morrison esque female vocals. And, recently signed to Relapse records, Rabbits will be opening up the night with an extremely heavy sonic onslaught.

Rabbits is a heavy/punk/sludge trio spawned from the bowels of Portland. Rabbits sounds like either slow or fast-tempo Black Sabbath playing Spaceman 3, Man is the Bastard, Scratch Acid, and a Pinch of the monkeys (the animals, not the band). Their personal influences include Dr. Seuss, evolution, earth and space, the Time Life Science and Nature libraries, drugs, the limits of the human body, the Beatles, old hardcore, punk rock, John Lee Hooker, Slayer, and, of course, the Stooges.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24
ELECTROPOLIS II —,

"Boy Eats Drum Machine has become one of Portland's favorite local acts, and for very good reason. Frontman Jon Ragel brings impressive turntable skills to a live band setting in a way that never sounds forced, gimmicky, or like those nu-metal DJs. His soulful, steady vocals weave in and out of the evolving, fluid arrangements" portland mercury - 12/27/07

Influenced by electro as well as hip-hop, Serious Business is self-described as "unapologetic, hyper, feel-good dance music that's more infectious than swine flu." Their live set is wildly energetic and engaging, like an uncontrollable party stuffed inside a burning stick of dynamite. Holocene has noted that they "bring the freak to the party".

"Vanimal may be one of Portland's newest outfits in the electronic scene, but you'd never guess it. This band in a nutshell: summer fun. For those about to dance, summer is here. And yes, Vanimal is on the soundtrack. Need we say more?" -Oregon Music News "Portland, Oregon's VANIMAL makes live new wave/electro music. From their warehouse spacecraft they create dynamic performances through live instrumentation, taking influence from vintage electro, new wave, punk + pop aesthetics. VNML's setup is a wired jungle of synthesizers, samplers, pedals, people, bass, live drums, drum machines + circuit-bent electronics." - VANIMAL

"I don't really have to reiterate my feelings about Noddy, do I? Okay. Fine. THEY'RE AWESOME. That's what." - The Stranger "A dark, synthrock feel ... something like Gary Numan sweetened with a spoonful or two of sugar." - KEXP

"We are the heavens' execution of freestyle synth passion, an exercise in the pleasures of the flesh, and a couple of fine m-effers." - S&M

"Jewels of the Nile is the dark airy down tempo electrodance project by the ladies of Magick Daggers. Aquarians born in the year of the Tiger, the two came together to perform a Solstice rite conjuring the Marquesa Casati, which lit the fire for the music frenzy that followed. Jessy Montaigne, of the deceased-but-not-forgotten all femme SF group Subtonix //singer, songwriter, bass player.... and Meghan Christine, a producer, designer and DJ. Both DJs and Daggers band mates, the two like to make avantnoise gilded with heavy beats and stylized melody."

"Who's on drugs? In a nutshell She's on Drugs is an electronic rock band. But since we live in the real world and not in a nutshell. She's on Drugs is a booming wall of sound that wants to make your ass shake. Like all great bands, it was a happy accident. Take a guitar, bass, synth, trumpet and drums and throw them in a bowl (that'd be a big bowl) and you get a batch of fun tunes that are meant to get you movin."

"The Remix Artist Collective (RAC) is an agency of international members who create re-interpretative rock/electronica/dance remixes for musical artists."-Wikipedia RAC Remixes have been featured numerous times in: Pitchfork Media, Stereogum, Perez Hilton, Woxy, Mashable, Kotaku, New York Magazine, Brooklyn Vegan, Hipster Runoff, The Music Ninja, Idolator, I Guess I'm Floating, Missingtoof, Spinner, Remix Mag, Pretty Much Amazing and many other blogs.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 1
DJ SPINNA, ROB SWIFT, REV SHINES —8pm, $12.00 at the door

My dad was a salsa and merengue DJ. My brother learned how to scratch and do all the hip hop deejaying stuff on my dad's equipment (without his permission) and I'd sit there and watch him. When I entered the sixth grade, I decided I wanted to learn." So unlike those who got influenced through hip hop records, DMC and NMS tapes, or movies, Swift educated himself with the classic turntable beats of the early '80s New York playground pioneers while listening to funk and jazz at home. "My older brother exposed me to all that," he says. "All the stuff I create as a DJ is rooted in the songs that I heard from Bob James, Herbie Hancock and James Brown to Quincy Jones and old DJs like Grandmaster Flash and Grand Wizard Theodore. That's where my roots are."
