Paschal Coeur's snappy blend of sugar-pop songwriting, classic country, sprinkled with a little soul and a dash of electro on top. What on paper sounds like someone's record collection thrown in a blender is actually a fabulous success in the hands of Paschal Coeur. Songwriter Danielle Fish's commanding vocal presence (think Jenny Lewis) fronts a band that covers more ground in a single song than most bands pack into an entire career. Your ears may actually walk right off your head and say to your face: "Hey! Are you getting this? This is incredible stuff!! It sounds like nothing else I've heard and yet it's so familiar and comfy!" Your face will nod and smile before freaking out and reaching to reattach them. This show is extra special because you will leave with the band's brand new CD, which eliminates the common problem of desperately trying to remember how to pronounce/correctly spell the name for your myspace search later on. The Physical Hearts are a rock 'n' roll band -- there is simply no denying it. Anyone who disagrees needs only to listen the to the title track from the group's self-released 2009 EP 'Fend Off the Tide' to hear their unique form of rock in action. But more than that, The Physical Hearts are four talented musicians dedicated to artfully crafting melody driven, psychedelic-tinged roots-pop steeped in the music of their forbears, yet fearlessly driven to the front edge of contemporary rock and folk music.
The members of Summer Ono share a love for textural rock, jazz and melodic pop, and this comes through on their debut self-titled full length vinyl release. Influenced by the likes of The Sea and Cake, American Music Club, Calexico and Tortoise, the 6 piece Summer Ono blends vintage keyboards, arpeggiated guitars, dynamic drums, lyrical basslines, trumpet and harmonized vocals to replicate the rich sounds of the album live. FREEWAY "The hip-hop world is always changing. New rappers come and go every single day. Surviving in this game takes talent, hard work and connections. Just ask Philly rapper Freeway...
Freeway came into the game at the height of Jay-Z and Roc-A-Fella Records' success. State Property was a seven-man group from Philadelphia that gave Jay-Z the street credibility he needed and they took on all beefs without hesitation. Freeway said one of the best metaphors ever heard in a diss song against Jay-Z's former mentor Jaz-O: "You like the beer Cain dropped in 'Menace': 40 and Broke."
Freeway put out a few almost classic albums during his days at the label Jay-Z built, and then, followed with a few street albums. Today, he is back with one of the brightest up-and-coming producers in the game -- Jake One (50 Cent, G-unit, Mary J Blige) -- and a new machine behind him in indie powerhouse, Rhymesayers Entertainment.

They've been playing the "tune" for about 20 minutes. It may go on for another 10. Musicians have come and gone during this same tune. Ozier has been on the table, onstage, walking through the club and out to the Southwest Second Avenue sidewalk, where people are happily hanging and being served jerk chicken from the barbecue out there. At times he's given up the mike to a soul singer, an R&B singer, a rapper or whoever else wants to take a crack at it. - Tom D'Antoni

A prohibition-era themed music and dance revue. All proceeds go towards offering free, outdoor park parties this summer!
PLAYGROUND is a Portland, OR based production crew focusing on creating free outdoor summertime dance events. Bringing family-friendly fun, sunshine-drenched beats, and positive community vibes to Portland Public Parks. Jack Cranley aka Dj Jacaranda, was the initial driving force in formulating Playground. Jack felt there weren't enough family-friendly events with positive-vibe music in Portland and sought to remedy that situation. As a DJ, he strives for versatility and responsiveness to the crowd - but tends towards melodic varieties of House, Breaks, Cosmic Disco, Balearic, and Downtempo. One of the high points of every Portland summer for the last 3 years has been the Playground summer park parties. Each year gathering in the park on a summer afternoon offering free music, dancing, community, and family-friendly fun. DJ's and live electronic artists bring you through a day of picnicking, beats, smiles and play. In order to keep these free events sustainable Playground holds a Fundraiser Benefit each year. This year's fundraiser Playground Presents HIGHTIME HIDEAWAY, a showcase of Tribal and Underground music, dance, art and culture with a Prohibition-era Theme. Think ragtime, mobster, art deco meets the 21st century electronic dance age.

"Former member of Last of the Juanitas, and frontwoman for the far better behaved Juanita Family, LANA REBEL is the badass matriarch of local dust bowl country. Sounding like the coal miner's daughter trapped in a collapsed mine, the music of Rebel is gorgeous and morose, a sad waltz of cowgirl balladry that can't be cured by even the most generous whiskey pour."-Ezra Ace Caraeff, Portland Mercury, March 2008
