Due to the overwhelming success of Cover Your Hearts I & II, local shoegaze rockers Charmparticles have emerged from some time off to organize the highly anticipated third annual Cover Your Hearts benefit taking place on Friday February 12th & Saturday February 13th. After selling out the first two Cover Your Hearts and turning patrons away at the door, the Charmparticles/Someday Lounge team has decided to add a second show this year. Both evenings will continue with tradition, with local musicians covering some of their favorite and guiltiest love songs from the years 1980-1990.
100% of proceeds from tickets sales will go to support Ethos Music, Inc- an organization that was established as a direct response to the budget cuts in public schools which limited music education for children. The Ethos mission is that every child has the right to learn and make music. Through Ethos, music education is available on a sliding scale so that any child can participate. Charmparticles will once again join forces with local band Jonah to form the supergroup PDX Speedwagon. Joining them on both nights will be Dr. Theopolis, Adrian H & the Wounds, Gentlemen (from CA), and local 'bootgaze' heroes Celilo. Chris Robley & Fear of Heights, mythical legends Metal Bear, and Blue Skies for Black Hearts display their talents for the Friday bill, while Deepest Darkest, Erik Blood (of the Turn-Ons), and Bryan Free & the Doxyhaunts round out Saturday's show.

In short, Norman is diverse in its influences. It's a melting pot of sounds, ideas and styles. We'll save the genre branding for you! The Corvallis Gazette Times described Norman's sound in a review in 2007: "rock, pop, folk, alt-country, funk, and experimental flavors ...create a singular sonic soup for you to sip at your leisure."
Curtains For You is a five piece retro-pop band from Seattle, Washington. Heavily influenced by British Invasion music of the 1960s, the band relies on memorable melodies, intricate three- and four-part harmonies, and hooks to land whales on. Musically, the band betrays the gloomy and grungy Seattle for sunnier places. Lyrically, the band is firmly rooted in rainy days and darker dramas. They self-describe their sound as "The Beatles meets Vaudeville meets the Muppet Show."

John Leo and Sophie Nimmannit, a real-life couple, have crafted perhaps the silliest, most heartfelt romantic comedy about strap-on anal sex ever. Their beginner's guide to "pegging" (as coined by Savage Love readers) - complete with sing-a-longs, how-to's, puppets and soul-baring striptease - offers a hilariously penetrating look at queer sex for straight folks. But as the lesson probes deeper, it devolves into a lover's quarrel that tickles qualms, exposes scruples, liberates desire and comes to a climax where everyone gets off.
Peg-ass-us premiered on a fringe festival tour in 2008 to Montreal and San Francisco (hosted by the Center for Sex and Culture), where it won "Best Comedy". The show spent 2009 at home in New York with a Valentine's run at the Brick Theater (after which the show appeared in Wikipedia's entry on "pegging"), a visit to Bard College (hosted by the Queer-Straight Alliance) and a fall residency at Dixon Place where the show grew to new heights of absurdity. Sophie says, "It's an ice-breaker. After the shows, people tell us things that they've never told anyone. I just hope they go home and touch things they've never touched before." The 2010 tour will also visit Juneau, AK and Seattle, WA.

They've been playing the "tune" for about 20 minutes. It may go on for another 10. Musicians have come and gone during this same tune. Ozier has been on the table, onstage, walking through the club and out to the Southwest Second Avenue sidewalk, where people are happily hanging and being served jerk chicken from the barbecue out there. At times he's given up the mike to a soul singer, an R&B singer, a rapper or whoever else wants to take a crack at it. - Tom D'Antoni

The Hugs are garage pop band from Portland, Oregon. The Hugs began in early 2007. The Hugs play music that is extremely infectious.
Head Like a Kite's There Is Loud Laughter Everywhere, takes listeners on an aural road trip, mixing propelling hip hop drum beats with electronic Krautrock and indie pop peppered with field recordings captured while HLAK toured the United States. The result is a lush, party soundtrack that fast forwards to the future, taking us on a memorable sonic trip around the country.
Radiation City
Radiation City, a brand new band out of Portland, already has a classic with the song, "Phantom Lady (Homeric)." A seven minute track that takes turns, not only in vocal harmonies, but with its ability to be furiously loud and the next moment, barely audible. A richness, inherent in the female vocals and organ following freely behind it, offers a sorrowful sound we already have come to love in Beach House.

Prince and associated artists go toe-to-toe on the dance floor against Michael and the Jackson family during this ultimate party! Who cares... this is the perfect night out to lounge with your friends, make some new friends, get your drink on, dance your @ss off and celebrate the music of both these pop stars. The Prince vs Michael Experience is meant to celebrate the music of two of the biggest pop cultural icons of our generation. It is done with love and mutual respect for both artists. The experience is presented by bombhiphop.com who have successfully produced over 60 of these events in San Francisco as well as Seattle, Olympia, Portland, Bend and Vancouver, BC. "As a concept for a DJ battle, Prince vs. Michael is brilliant," writes SF Weekly's Hiya Swanhuyser.
"For six years now, Dave Paul (proprietor of local hip-hop label Bomb Records) has hosted and DJ'ed at the brilliant "Prince vs. Michael Jackson" parties. As selections of hits, rarities, and remixes from both artists are presented over the course of the evening, audience members square off in funky battle, holding signs bearing the mug of their favored entertainer to judge which one is the true king of pop. This sure ain't the place for cynics, but Darling Nikki's and Dirty Diana's are all welcome to participate." - SF WEEKLY
